AI Safety

Safety is underwriting, not marketing

R3i operates at the high-consequence end of artificial intelligence — infrastructure, defence, health, water. At that end of the market, safety is not a communications position; it is the underwriting discipline that decides what the platform will and will not touch.

01 · The LEADS framework

Legal. Ethical. Acceptable. Defendable. Sensible.

Every investment, platform and programme passes LEADS review before capital, acceleration or distribution. A system that cannot be operated legally, defended publicly and explained sensibly does not proceed — whatever its return profile.

02 · Compliance is the floor

Regulation is read early, and complied with earlier

The R3i Future Intelligence Lab's AIComply platform monitors EU AI Act and global regulatory obligations across the portfolio. R3i treats compliance as the floor of responsible AI practice, not its ceiling — the same regulatory signal the platform invests on.

03 · Controlled technologies

Export-control discipline

Where R3i works with dual-use or defence-relevant technologies, it operates export-controlled, ITAR-aware workflows with defence-grade KYC/AML, and screens counterparties before access to technology, data or people. Protecting research, researchers and IP from misappropriation is part of the safety mandate.

04 · Public standards

Standards work in public

R3i has advised governments on safe-AI governance standards and child-safety standards, and applies the same positions to its own portfolio. Forward-looking claims about AI capability are marked as modelled or indicative wherever they appear in R3i materials.

This page states R3i's operating position. The formal policy document, with ownership and review cadence, is subject to board adoption.
